STUDIES ON ALGAL BIODIVERSITY OF DNYANGANGA RESERVOIR OF DNYANGANGA WILDLIFE SANCTURY, FOREST AREA OF BULDHANA DISTRICT, (M.S.), INDIA

Abstract

The forest area located in Gavilgad hills in the north and Ajanta hills in south of the district. Dnyanganga take it name from the river Dnyanganga which flows through it. The Buldhana district is located in the northern part of Mahrashtra. The forest covers an area of 1151.83 sq. Km. In the Dnyanganga forest range many villages situated on the bank of river i.e. Botha forest range, Matargaon forest range, Borala range. Dnyanganga forest is divided into Buldhana, Motala and Khamgaon these are the three talukas of district. Dnyanganga reservoir is one of the most important reservoirs of Vidarbha region of near Khamgaon of Dist. Buldhana. Algal samples were collected at weekly intervals from August 2014 to September 2014. Acid washed collection bottles were used for the collection of algal samples. Floating, planktonic, submerged and attached epiphytic algal samples were collected. In present study 75 species under 42 genera have been identified and recorded. Algal members belonged to Chlorophyceae, Charophyceae, Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae were recorded.  Cholorophyceae  group  was  found  dominant  which  is  followed  by  Cyanophyceae, Bicillariophyceae  and  Charophyceae. Algal flora of four different sites of the reservoir is rich and it is found in diverse form
