# UTILIZING USEFULNESS OF A TOPIC STRATEGY FOR INCREASING STUDENTS MOTIVATION IN MATHEMATICS: A LOGISTIC MATHEMATICAL MODEL APPROACH

### Abstract

With motivation being one of the key factors determining interest and success in mathematics learning, strategies in motivating learners should be seen as an important aspect of the study of mathematics. However, this study investigated the extent to which mathematics teachers utilize usefulness of a topic strategy (UTS) for increasing students’ motivation in mathematics using logistic mathematics model approach. A cross-section of mathematics teachers in Imo State numbering 103 were continuously observed and surveyed to decipher their extent of utilizing usefulness of a topic strategy (UTS) in the classroom to motivate the students. The result indicates that mathematics teachers seldom utilize UTS in the classroom to motivate students. It was recommended among others that mathematics teachers should be trained to use motivational strategies such as indicating the usefulness of a topic during mathematics teaching.## Abstract
